Danielle is a native Tucsonan and John has been here since he was 8 years old. We’ve founded and run successful businesses, sold a few, raised our children here and our extended families also call Tucson home. We’ve stayed at a lot of vacation rentals over the years and have always wanted to run our own vacation property.

In 2023 we purchased the 5.7 acre Solana property with a vision of creating a family and dog-friendly destination with mini-resort amenities. We hope you love it here as much as we do! Welcome to Solana Spanish Villas and enjoy your stay with us!

The History of Solana

Bar J Desert Haciendas

This unique property has a long history of agriculture dating back to the 1930’s when the first of 5 wells were dug tapping into the shallow water table that makes the area so green and lush. The villas were constructed in the 1950’s and rented for many years as “Bar J Haciendas” on Tanque Verde. Over the past 70 years many improvements have been made. The original 1950’s Spanish colonial inspired architecture still stands today.

Wildlife | Desert

Welcome to the Sonoran Desert

Solana is an oasis in the Tanque Verde Valley outside of sunny Tucson Arizona, located in the middle of the Sonoran Desert. While we don’t look like we are in the
desert we have a wide variety of local vegetation and wild animals. Our property is rural and wildlife is abundant. Here is a guide of some key wildlife to keep an eye out for.

The Sonoran Desert is a hot desert in North America and ecoregion that covers the northwestern Mexican states of Sonora, Baja California, and Baja California Sur, as
well as part of the southwestern United States. It is the hottest desert in both Mexico and the United States. Here in Tucson we celebrate our mild winters with temps rarely going into the thirties. During the summer though we can reach temps close to above 105 degrees. Therefore, we highly recommend precautions to avoid dehydration, sunburns, and even heat stroke.

“Living in a big city I had wanted to get away for some peace and quiet and that’s exactly what I found at Solana Spanish Villas. The cottage my boyfriend and two dogs stayed in was homey and had all the amenities needed to cook a meal. The cottages were spread out enough to give privacy and my two small dogs enjoyed roaming around the property. The property is far away enough from town to be able to gaze at the stars at night and hear the coyotes howl but close enough to hiking and a grocery store. I will definitely be visiting again.”

“What a wonderful hidden gem!! Although they were still working on the property it was everything the listing described and then some. The casita we stayed in was very clean and spacious. The kitchen was equipped with everything we could need. The beds were comfortable with 5 star linens. The towels were clean and soft. The property itself is beautiful with plenty of activities available. The owners have spent a great deal of time making sure their guests have all their needs met. Including spacious parking. We will definitely stay again."
